London, 15 March 2017 – 3D Repo, a provider of cloud software solutions for collaborative Building Information Modelling (BIM), has signed up to the Open BIM Programme.
Designed to provide a universal approach to the collaborative design, realisation and operation of buildings based on open standards and workflows, Open BIM is an initiative of leading software vendors using the buildingSMART Data Model based on open standards such as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and BIM Collaboration Format (BCF). Through the use of its award winning open source software solutions, available to try free of charge at www.3drepo.org, and its support of the Open BIM programme, 3D Repo joins other members of the growing Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) community in promoting successful and streamlined collaboration on BIM projects anywhere in the world.
“Open BIM supports a transparent, open workflow, creating a common language and allowing end users to communicate with potential suppliers and procure projects with transparent commercial engagement, comparable service evaluation and assured data quality,” commented Dr Jozef Dobos, CEO of 3D Repo. “The aims and objectives of the Open BIM programme are so closely aligned with our own ethos that joining the community, and hopefully contributing to its growth and success, was obvious.”
The Open BIM Programme is a world-wide, open and non-product specific group initiated by buildingSMART, focused on promoting open communication protocols as an integral part of the BIM process, and providing industry with education and support on the deployment of Open BIM processes. Promoted by GRAPHISOFT, Tekla and others, the Open BIM Programme is designed to encourage and facilitate the globally co-ordinated promotion of the Open BIM concept throughout the AEC industry, with aligned communication and common branding available to programme participants such as 3D Repo.
“Construction is one of mankind’s most collaboration intense endeavours. It requires a joint effort from an array of different stakeholders. These stakeholders must be able to work together independent of their profession or their choice of software tool,” added Akos Pfemeter, GRAPHISOFT Vice President of Marketing. “We at GRAPHISOFT believe the prospect of BIM is Open BIM. Actually, we believe the only viable prospect is Open BIM. Therefore we are more than happy to welcome more and more parties to join the Open BIM movement, especially young innovative companies such as 3D Repo.”

Notes to Editors
3D Repo, a spinout from University College London, is a developer of multi-award winning open source software for Building Information Modelling in the cloud. Instead of architects, consultants and contractors sharing massive proprietary files in a costly and time consuming manner, they can simply point their web browser to an encrypted online repository in order to examine each project stage virtually, even on mobile devices. More than 40 different 3D file formats are decomposed and federated in the company’s big data repository.
The 3D Repo team has collaborated on a number of large scale projects with companies such as ARUP, Balfour Beatty and British Telecom.
